Today we’re talking about what to do if a loved one is faced with dementia and how to navigate through this complex medical situation to ensure that quality care is received.

In this episode, we’re not only talking about something that has touched my life personally but something that's touching the lives of millions of others as well. As I've recently learned, there are many roads to dementia, and it's so important for us to know what to do if it shows up in our family or circle of friends.

For my family and I, we did not have the knowledge, tools, or understanding that would have initially helped us in our recent situation. My goal is to share what I've learned with you in hopes that if you're ever in the position of having a loved one with dementia you will be able to help them receive the care that they need.

Founder of ElderCare Concierge, Jill Swartz-King, helps ensure that patients and their families are efficiently guided through the process of obtaining quality healthcare with an emphasis on becoming an educated and confident consumer. Jill joins me today to share how after witnessing several painful events that could have been avoided, she made an intentional decision to work directly with families to fill the gap.

We Discuss:

  • Steroid-induced dementia and how different drugs can have very surprising side effects
  • How patient advocates help patients make informed decisions about their health care
  • How urinary tract infections can cause sudden confusion and dementia-like behaviors
  • How much time patients spend in the hospital before being referred to a skilled nursing facility
  • Medicare, Medicaid, Medi-Cal, and Medi-Medis - Health care coverage and reimbursement
